Without your input, they will feel free to enact and vote on legislation to which you may be opposed.
Tell them we want the following actions taken to ensure the landfill is cleaned up and the area can be used as a public park:

 |
- Insist on Complete New Health Risk Assessment (HRA) due to Flawed Five Year Review Assessment
- Inappropriate Testing Model:
The 2008 HRA did not use the current EPA-approved air modeling data system called AERMOD.
Call to Action: Request new HRA based on current Federal EPA Air Modeling.
- Flawed Air Sampling :
The meterorological data used was from a 1981 Redondo Beach air sampling, which is dated and from a geographic area some distance away, and with a different proximity to the ocean and other geographic variables.
Call to Action: Request air sampling based on current and local meterological data.
- Incomplete Well Testing:
Less than half of the wells were tested for contamination.
Gas well temperatures are historically very high. High temperature indicate possible landfill fires. In 2004, temperatures were reported over 300°, well beyond the 140° defined by FEMA as a landfill fire.
Call to Action: Request updated testing of ALL wells.
- Rigorous maintenance of the landfill gas extraction system to create a safe environment for community use.
- Restore a natural habitat and create a passive mutli-use recreational area.
