sludge found at utility box The Palos Verdes Landfill is located at 25706 Hawthorne Boulevard, Rolling Hills Estate, California, and is operated by Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts (LACSD).

This site has been well-documented for contamination by the EPA and other environmental agencies. The 175-acre portion of the landfill was part of a hazardous waste landfill for 30 years. Located today in a densely populated area, homes are as close as 6 feet away. There are more than 20 shcools iwthin a 2-mile radius.

Local activist Joan Davidson has spent years educating the surrounding communities and spearheading the efforts to restore this site for safe, natural public use. The vision of the South Bay Open Space Task Force is to create a safe community partk, restore this site for public use, and provide habitat restoration with both passive and active recreational uses.
